Palast der Republik Collection

Opened in 1976, the Palast der Republik served as the primary seat of the Volkskammer, the East German parliament. In addition to its political significance, the Palast der Republik also housed two large auditoriums, art galleries, a theatre, restaurants and a bowling alley. Over protests, the Palast der Republik was systematically demolished from 2003 to 2008. The Wende is now one of the few repositories to hold items from this historic building including theater set drawings, artist renderings and an 81-piece fine-dining set, used for visiting dignitaries and state occasions.
