SUMMARY:WIP 020
DESCRIPTION:WIP 020 features works in progress by Emily Barasch & Kevin Williamson followed by a post-show talk back moderated by WIP alum Jmy James Kidd. \nWhat is WIP? \nWIP is an artist-led\, work-in-progress performance platform co-founded by dance artists Kate Wallich\, Stephanie Zaletel\, and Belize Wilheim. Launched in 2023\, WIP was created to give choreographers and performance makers a “low-tech\, high-visibility” space to share evolving works with audiences\, fostering curiosity\, dialogue\, and critical exchange at every stage of development. \nThe format is simple: each WIP features two artists sharing up to 25 minutes of work-in-progress\, followed by a moderated post-show conversation. \nWIP’s mission is to provide a supportive and sustainable environment for artists to test new ideas\, receive meaningful feedback\, and catalyze experimentation within the Los Angeles dance and performance community. By centering progressive and innovative work that challenges convention\, WIP strengthens the local ecosystem and deepens connections between artists\, arts institutions\, and audiences.

SUMMARY:Spectra: Cosmos
DESCRIPTION:Join Spectra for a celestial evening of vocal and piano music inspired by the night sky\, astrology\, and the mystery of creation. A collection of four songs by Tania León\, Alma Mahler\, Ruth Crawford Seeger\, and Dora Pejaçević outlines different experiences of wonder under the night sky. George Crumb’s “Makrokosmos Volume II” extends piano technique beyond the keys in a mythic exploration of the twelve zodiac signs. Alexander Scriabin’s Piano Sonata No. 10 is a “sonata of insects” that envisions the solar origin of these tiny creatures in a maze of trills and tremolos. Finally\, William Bolcom’s song cycle “I Will Breathe A Mountain” creates a galaxy of poetic forms\, featuring eleven evocative sonic planets that spring from poems by eleven American women. \nBe sure to RSVP below!

SUMMARY:My Sonic Valentine: Love Wrapped in Sound
DESCRIPTION:A FREE immersive Valentine’s Day offering. \nStep into a Valentine’s Day experience unlike any other\, where love\, sound\, art\, and vibration invite connection\, presence\, play\, and yes\, more love. \nPresented by Sonic Unity\, My Sonic Valentine: Love Wrapped in Sound marks their West Coast debut\, with a gathering that reimagines Valentine’s Day beyond romance\, embracing self-love\, friendship\, and community through sound and art\, and unfolds its vision across the indoor and outdoor spaces of the Wende Museum. \nDoors open at 3:30pm and guests will be invited to move freely\, follow the sound\, and experience living art and soundscapes that unfold across the museum’s spaces. This is envisioned as an interactive sound-art journey\, an experience that blends stillness with mindful movement into the realm of dreamlike wandering gently through sound\, art and connection. \nIn the spirit of community and public art\, the Wende Museum is honored to welcome the NXT Art Foundation\, which will present their brilliant Attune 1.0\, a first-of-its-kind public art platform designed to connect Angelenos through coordinated sound and light-based works presented simultaneously across multiple locations. Attune 1.0\, presented by NXT Art Foundation and Arup and produced by Carmen Zella (Cofounder\, NXT Art Foundation and Creative Director\, NOW Art)\, will unfold across Los Angeles County at sunset on Valentine’s Day as part of a free\, family-friendly public art experience. \nAttune 1.0 will activate the garden space as a central feature\, inviting guests to bring picnic blankets or chairs and settle around a light-based installation as they experience a collective sound journey created by local artists to inspire connection and calm… \n…and AMPLIFY LOVE. \nAt the heart of the experience is a continuous sound bath flow in the museum’s theater\, where guests are invited to receive as much or as little sound as feels right—dipping in and out as they wish. You are welcome to lie down\, sit\, move quietly\, or simply listen as sound moves through the space. We ask that this space be held with care and mindfulness\, honoring it as a sacred environment for sound bathing. \nTHEATER | THE SOUND BATH SANCTUARY \nA curated progression of exceptional sound artists bathing you with healing sound \n4:00 PM – Isaac Sabu\nVibroacoustic frequencies and immersive sound healing \n5:00 PM – Anthony Profeta\n2025 Evergreen Award Winner for Best Sound Therapist in the USA\, often referred to as “The Mozart of Sound” \n6:00 PM – Sandy Duarte\nStage 4 Cancer Survivor whose sound was born in chemo. A deeply intentional sound journey rooted in lived healing experience. Supported by Peter Hess® Therapy Bowls and Rainbow Sounds® crystal bowls \n6:40 PM – Closing Sound Bath\nA powerful collective sound immersion where all artists come together to jam and co-create in sound. \nJoining us as a special guest is Grammy-nominated artist Bella Rabbit\, adding her presence and creative spirit to the gathering. \nBella Rabbit is a Grammy-nominated songwriter\, artist and producer whose voice moves between sensitivity and power\, using sound as a frequency to alchemize emotion and presence. Her vocal work bridges intimacy and expansiveness\, inviting listeners into a shared space of resonance and release. \nSPACES BEYOND \nDiscover Biotune Wellness Technology through vibroacoustic offerings available on a first-come\, first-served basis. These experiences invite deep relaxation\, heart–brain coherence\, and elevated states of meditation\, supporting both individual and collective wellness. \nPlus\, make your way up to the museum’s beautiful rooftop for Sonic Unity Talking Circles\, a welcoming space for reflection\, heartfelt conversation\, and meaningful connection\, hosted by Janein Chavez\, LMFT\, and Nick Sharp\, M.A.\, LPCC\, GEP. \nWHAT THIS IS \nThis is not a workshop or a traditional performance. It is a curated sonic environment designed for listening\, nervous system regulation\, reflection\, shared presence\, and most of all LOVE. \nOpen to all—come alone\, with a partner\, or with friends and family. Experience Valentine’s Day as a moment of self-love\, friendship\, community\, and collective resonance. \nABOUT SONIC UNITY \nSonic Unity is a collective devoted to exploring sound as a universal language for healing\, connection\, and collective resonance—where love is the language beyond words. Their work brings together ancient and contemporary vibrational expressions through sound\, art\, and technology to create immersive experiences that support nervous system regulation\, emotional clarity\, embodied presence\, and community gathering. \nSonic Unity was co-founded by wellness and creative artist Sandy Duarte and wellness entrepreneur Melissa Rosen with the mission to foster coherence within the self\, between individuals\, and across communities through intentional sound and vibratory experiences. \nSandy’s sound practice was born during her journey through chemotherapy as a Stage 4 cancer patient\, where sound became a source of calm\, grounding\, and inner peace. That lived experience informs the depth\, care\, and intention behind every Sonic Unity offering. \nThis Valentine’s Day gathering marks the West Coast debut of Sonic Unity’s immersive sound work\, following an acclaimed multi-day event during Miami Art Week featuring over 25 sound facilitators of various genres in collaboration for continuous sound programming. \nAs founders of this movement\, we leave you with both our ethos to ponder with joy and possibility. \n“The power of love’s sound is for everyone.” – Sandy Duarte\n“Listening is love.” – Melissa Rosen
