DESCRIPTION:We look forward to welcoming you to an evening of short works and excerpts by filmmaker Dwayne LeBlanc\, exploring distance\, belonging\, and the spaces in between. The screening will be followed by a conversation on process\, place\, and the thematic threads that connect his work. Moderated by Miriam Bale. \nFriday\, August 29th. Culver City\, CA 90230 \nTheater doors open at 6:45 PM | Screening begins at 7:00 PM. \nFree admission! RSVP required \nLimited Seating – Please reserve your spot early! \nFree parking available on-site \nNo photography allowed during the screening \nMiriam Bale is a film programmer and writer. She was the former Artistic Director of the Indie Memphis Film Festival in Tennessee and the Founding Director of the La Di Da Film Festival in New York. She has written about film for publications including The New York Times\, Sight and Sound\, Film Comment\, and W Magazine. \nDwayne LeBlanc is a Los Angeles–based\, first-generation Caribbean American self-taught filmmaker whose work explores themes of migration\, visibility\, and dual identities. \nHis debut narrative short film\, Civic\, was named one of The Best Movies of 2023 by The New Yorker. His sophomore film\, Now\, Hear Me Good\, premiered in the Tiger Shorts Competition at IFFR and continues to screen at major international festivals and leading art institutions. He is set to complete his trilogy with the upcoming short\, You Do Not Exist. \nCollectively\, his work has been presented at venues including The Met\, MoMA\, Harvard\, Stanford\, UC Berkeley\, NYU\, and CalArts. LeBlanc is one of Filmmaker Magazine’s ’25 New Faces of Independent Film\,’ a 2024 Dolby Institute Fellow\, a Berlinale Talents alum\, a Zurich Film Festival Academy alum\, and a 2025 MacDowell fellow.
