SUMMARY:FRAMEWORKS | Ashla Chavez-Razzano: HAVANA DIALECTIC
DESCRIPTION:HAVANA DIALECTIC is an ambient musical performance by artist Ashla Chavez-Razzano\, inspired by the urban soundscapes of Los Angeles\, California\, and Havana\, Cuba. The performance abstracts urban and natural environments local to the two cities as a way of reconciling places of exile and expansion. Three musicians—upright bassist Tate Chavez\, percussionist Zach Gotler\, and wind player Collin McCrary—will perform alongside ambient sound composition and experimental cinema vérité by Chavez-Razzano. Their organic\, meditative swelling of improvisation will complement the ever-changing visual collages of urban life in Los Angeles and Havana. Through found sound\, video\, poetry\, and live musical improvisation\, the piece explores new forms of the philosophical “dialectic”: between musician and field recordings; between contrasting urban landscapes; between ideals of advancement and realities of decline. \nThis performance inaugurates the 2026 season of the Wende Museum’s experimental music series FRAMEWORKS. This season\, each featured artist will develop an interdisciplinary performance considering both domestic and public spaces as they relate to the artist’s singular perspective. Each artist will reflect on the subtle implications of space\, as functional and measurable records of cities or cultures; versus place\, the conceptual and felt imaginings of the familiar or alien. Embodying the Wende’s ethos of promoting research into dynamic global networks and processes of transformation through an experimental lens\, the series’ bimonthly\, site-specific performances examine the “frameworks” through which we narrate the past and imagine the future; they complement the Museum’s exhibitions and programs while simultaneously acting as channels to contemporary scenes alive in Los Angeles. \nThere will be a complimentary reception prior to the program\, starting at 1 p.m. The performance will begin at 2 p.m. \nAshla Chavez-Razzano is a Los Angeles–based writer\, musician\, and curatorial consultant whose work traces the emotional and social possibilities of sound. Moving between writing\, music\, radio\, and performance\, her practice is rooted in storytelling through experimentation and active listening. In 2024\, Ashla debuted her sound-art at STADTWERKSTATT in Berlin. Since 2023\, she has been the artistic director of art-folk band Rabbit Rabbit Rabbit. As resident DJ of radio stations DUBLAB and KTPC 99.1 FM in Venice\, Ashla has utilized the medium of sound as a method of connection\, whether in person or on the air. Her writing has been recognized in Poets & Writers Magazine\, SPIN Magazine\, and Dream Boy Book Club.

SUMMARY:Music/Words LA: Curated by Inna Faliks
DESCRIPTION:Music/Words LA: Curated by Inna Faliks launches its new three-part season at the Wende with a live program pairing piano and poetry as equal voices. Pianist and UCLA professor Inna Faliks joins Los Angeles Poet Laureate emerita Lynne Thompson\, shaping an emotional arc through sound and text\, trading the lead as they move through works by Schumann\, Schoenberg\, and additional selections from the classical and contemporary repertoire alongside Thompson’s poetry. \nOriginally founded by Faliks in New York\, Music/Words has become a platform for artists who probe the borders between language and music. This first installment includes an audience Q&A in which Faliks will discuss the origins of the project and its evolution into an LA residency at the Wende. \nGuests are invited to stay for a light wine reception in the garden following the performance.

In addition\, he is the co-writer of hit Disney Channel movie Cadet Kelly\, which at its debut in 2002 was the highest-rated show and highest-rated original movie in the history of the channel. \nHis books The Devil’s Pleasure Palace and The Fiery Angel have become foundational in any discussion of the importance of restoring Western civilization. His book Last Stands: Why Men Fight When All is Lost has been described by Victor Davis Hanson as “a philosophical and spiritual defense of the premodern world\, of the tragic view\, of physical courage\, and of masculinity and self-sacrifice in an age when those ancient virtues are too often caricatured and dismissed.” \nHIs most recent book is A Rage to Conquer: Twelve Battles That Changed the Course of Western History which was the focus of an AFA-David Horowitz Freedom Center event at which he tied together great military battles and the music that formed their backdrop. It was that event that inspired this recital. \nMichael has spoken at several AFA events including last year’s “War on Men” conference and the 2019 “Long March” conference\, and the AFA looks forward to this special evening!

SUMMARY:FRAMEWORKS | Colloboh: U+2126
DESCRIPTION:Named after the Unicode for the Ohm symbol (Ω)\, “U+2126” fuses modular synthesis with archival media to examine resistance.\n\n\nFRAMEWORKS is a new interdisciplinary music series for 2025 designed to take audiences on an adventurous cultural and artistic journey in the state-of-the-art A-Frame Theater of the Glorya Kaufman Community Center\, on the campus of the Wende Museum. The series merges creative disciplines\, from film and dance to poetry and music\, and takes inspiration from the collection and exhibitions of the Wende. \nThe final FRAMEWORKS concert of the season will feature an opening DJ set by ASHLA (Ashla Chavez-Razzano)\, followed by a headlining performance by Colloboh\, a self-taught “synthesist” who creates genre-spanning work. Named after the Unicode for the Ohm symbol (Ω)\, U+2126 is a performance that fuses modular synthesis with archival media to examine resistance as a response to the continuous currents of oppression. The performance will feature Qur’an Shaheed (grand piano) and tp Dutchkiss (tape loops & drum synthesis) as collaborators. \nColloboh (a portmanteau of Collins Oboh) is a Nigerian-born\, Los Angeles-based artist who creates progressive electronic music compositions through the guidance of intuition. A self-taught synthesist\, Colloboh has toured and performed throughout North America\, Europe and Asia with revered acts such as Suzanne Cianni\, Beach House\, Richie Hawtin\, Kim Gordon and others. His performances have premiered at highly regarded institutions (Getty Center\, Walt Disney Concert Hall\, MoCA\, etc) and his music has also been featured on leading publications (Resident Advisor\, DJ Mag\, Clash Mag\, etc). Utilizing his modular synthesizer as a sonic canvas\, Colloboh’s EPs Entity Relation (2021) and Saana Sahel (2023) showcase the breadth of his ambitious compositions and commitment to experimentation. \nSpencer Hartling is an LA-based experimental musician and engineer/producer under the musical moniker tp Dutchkiss. As a self-taught tape loop artist\, Hartling disrupts the linearity of time within music\, exploring\, and recontextualizing the aural perception of memories through layers of sonic arrangements. tp Dutchkiss’ recent LP High Functioning (2024\, Leaving Records) draws inspirations from hisses\, hums\, and buzzes that are woven into irregular\, yet tightly knit compositions. Hartling is also a member of the band Harry the Nightgown\, owner/operator of Wiggle World\, a recording studio in Altadena\, CA\, and author of the zine Show Invisibles\, or How to Make a Tape Loop. \n\n\n\n\n\nQur’an Shaheed is an experimental pianist\, poet\, singer and songwriter based in Los Angeles\, CA. Trained extensively in jazz\, classical and contemporary music\, her sound is innovative and personal\, incorporating elements of improvisation as well as neo-classical and neo-soul techniques. Shaheed also composes film scores\, focusing on projects that reflect on society\, history and unifying acts. Her album Process was released in 2020 on Preference Records\, and her latest LP Pulse comes out on July 11 2025 on Leaving Records. \n  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nProgram Schedule \nGarden Reception 1—3 p.m. \nGarden DJ Set by ASHLA 1—2 p.m. \nA-Frame Theater Concert by Colloboh 2 —3 p.m. \nPlease note that the A-Frame Theater doors will close promptly at the start of the performance at 2 p.m. Late entry will not be permitted\, though guests are welcome to enjoy the performance from the garden. \nRSVPs for this free program do not guarantee admission to the A-Frame Theater. Limited seating will be available on a first come\, first served basis. \nAn ADA-accessible entrance to the Glorya Kaufman Community Center is available through the garden gate from the parking lot\, it will open at 12:30 p.m. \nThis event is presented with support from dublab.

SUMMARY:FRAMEWORKS | Ivana Dama: The Air Belongs to the Children
DESCRIPTION:FRAMEWORKS is a new interdisciplinary music series for 2025 designed to take audiences on an adventurous cultural and artistic journey in the state-of-the-art A-Frame Theater of the Glorya Kaufman Community Center\, on the campus of the Wende Museum. The series merges creative disciplines\, from film and dance to poetry and music\, and takes inspiration from the collection and exhibitions of the Wende. \nSound artist and researcher Ivana Dama will use analog synthesizers to create an atmospheric and ambient soundscape\, incorporating custom-made capacitive sensors developed in collaboration with the MIT Center for Bits and Atoms\, together with Neil Gershenfeld and Quentin Bolsee. She will appear to touch mere air to activate sound. Visuals created live from her instruments will enhance this experiential\, immersive performance. \nIvana Dama was born and raised in Belgrade shortly after the end of the civil war and during the time of NATO bombing. The tension between the former Yugoslavian countries was still undoubtedly present. Even though she was only a young child when the bombing began\, images and sounds of the destruction still clearly permeate her mind. The memories of living in a small shelter with the sounds and vibrations of the air raid sirens have contributed to her interest in using air and sound as a primary medium. Her work\, which includes audio-video installations\, robotics\, web projects\, and music performances\, explores the deep connections between sound\, memory\, and human experience. Ivana holds an MFA in Sculpture from Yale University and a prior degree from UCLA’s School of the Arts and Architecture. \nProgram Schedule \nGarden Reception 1 p.m.—3 p.m. \nGarden DJ Set by Ariana Mamnoon 1 p.m.—2 p.m. \nA-Frame Theater Concert by Ivana Dama 2 p.m.—3 p.m. SUMMARY:Frameworks | Sadubas: Echoes of Diplomacy: India's Sonic Footprint
DESCRIPTION:An immersive audio/visual performance exploring India’s unique position and contributions during the Cold War.\n\n\nAn immersive audio/visual performance exploring India’s unique position and contributions during the Cold War. \nFRAMEWORKS is a new interdisciplinary music series for 2025 designed to take audiences on an adventurous cultural and artistic journey in the state-of-the-art A-Frame Theater at the Wende Museum’s Glorya Kaufman Community Center. The series merges creative disciplines\, from film and dance to poetry and music\, and takes inspiration from the collection and exhibitions of the Wende. \nJoin Sadubas at the Wende Museum on May 3\, 2025 at 2 p.m. for Echoes of Diplomacy: India’s Sonic Footprint in the Cold War Era. This immersive audio/visual performance will explore India’s unique position and contributions during the Cold War. India\, under the leadership of its first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru\, pursued a policy of non-alignment\, positioning itself as a critical player in the geopolitics of the time that set the stage for India’s current position as a global nuclear superpower. This historical context provides a rich tapestry for a performance that weaves together music\, Bollywood cinema\, and visual storytelling. \nSADUBAS is the collaborative duo of classical tabla artist Robin Sukhadia and electronic producer Ameet Mehta. The two artists grew up together playing Commodore 64 video games\, consuming international films of the 70s and 80s\, and began experimenting with long form beat and rhythms sequences after relocating to San Francisco and acquiring an MPC 2000 and Technics 1200. Robin and Ameet use each other as mediums summoning a hybrid of South Asian classical rhythms\, electronic music\, Bollywood psychedelia with cinematic undertones that construct the sounds of SADUBAS: The Sadhus of Bass. They have performed at a wide range of prestigious venues and institutions across Los Angeles and Southern California\, including The Academy of Motion Pictures Museum\, LACMA\, the Hammer Museum\, and the Bowers Museum. More info at www.sadubas.com. \nProgram Schedule \nGarden Reception 1 p.m.— 3 p.m. \nGarden DJ Set by Discotchari 1 p.m.—2 p.m. \nA-Frame Theater Concert by Sadubas 2 p.m.—3 p.m.
