SUMMARY:The Movement Playground with Cantilever Collective
DESCRIPTION:Step into the spontaneous spirit of The Movement Playground\, a dance workshop series from Cantilever Collective. Each session is improvised\, ephemeral\, and open to all—no dance experience required. With live-mixed soundscapes\, playful prompts\, and space to move freely\, these workshops invite you to explore connection\, curiosity\, and joy through your own body’s language. \nOne day’s “play” will never be the same as the next. Come as you are. Move how you feel. \nAn ADA-accessible entrance to the Glorya Kaufman Community Center is available through the garden gate from the parking lot. It will open approximately 30 minutes before the program begins. \nRSVPs for this free program do not guarantee admission to the A-Frame Theater. Doors will open and seating will begin 15 minutes prior to the start of the program. Limited seating is available on a first come\, first served basis. Please note that doors will close promptly at the program’s start time and late entry will not be permitted.

SUMMARY:Bauhaus | The Shape-Shifting Forms of the Miura Pattern
DESCRIPTION:Learn to fold the Miura pattern and its various forms with artist Jeff Morrical. The pattern forms the basis of much of the artist’s sculptural work and within a few variations and combinations on the theme can create a wide variety of results.  Attendees will first be walked through tutorials on the pattern and can then combine and apply what they have learned in their own creative process to create a finished sculpture of their own. \nThis program is part of the Wende Bauhaus series\, in which local artists lead hands-on classes inspired by the Bauhaus school’s learning-by-doing philosophy and its spirit of experimentation\, play\, and discovery. \nAbout the teaching artist: The work of LA-based artist Jeff Morrical incorporates single-sheet paper sculptures shaped by folds and gravity. From many years working in the world of architecture\, finding form\, structure and pattern in everyday materials has always been a driving force in his work. While his artwork generally falls into the world of sculpture\, the pieces can become canvas\, costuming and props for movement and performance\, toys for play\, screens for projection – abundant possibilities in one of the world’s most ubiquitous and humble materials. He’s now on a mission to unlock the geometric properties latent in every sheet of material\, one fold at a time.
