DESCRIPTION:Join us for our weekly mindfulness meditations. Whether you are new to meditation or already have experience we welcome you to this community sit in the beautiful A-Frame Theater of the Wende Museum’s Glorya Kaufman Community Center \nYou do not have to join all sessions but can join as your schedule allows. Each session is followed by complimentary garden refreshments and an optional movement class. \nWhat is mindfulness? Mindfulness is being fully present to your life instead of being on autopilot. Our mind tends to rehash the past and to rehearse the future. There is nothing wrong with that except that it does it too much and it keeps us from being with what is actually happening right in this moment. We can feel like life is passing us by and we miss a lot of good moments with family and friends\, in nature and just throughout the day. When we are present we become better listeners and observers and will make better choices\, big and small. People who regularly practice mindfulness meditation report overall stress levels going down and being able to deal with whatever comes their way in a better\, healthier way. They also feel more connected and more joyful. \nWe practice this through mindfulness meditation where we train the mind to stay with an anchor\, like the sensations of the breath. Eventually the mind will calm down and so will the body. We learn tools to be with a busy mind\, challenging emotions\, and even physical pain. We can access peace\, calm and joy that arises independently of what’s going on in our lives at this time. \nTeacher Bio: \nChristiane Wolf is an internationally known mindfulness and Insight (Vipassana) meditation teacher. Originally from Berlin\, Germany\, she is a longtime proud resident of Culver City where her three children attended (or still attend) CCMS and CCHS. \nChristiane was trained as an OB/GYN in Germany but pivoted to not only practicing mindfulness meditation but then teaching it\, mainly through InsightLA. \nShe was trained and mentored by Trudy Goodman\, Jack Kornfield\, Jon Kabat-Zinn\, Gil Fronsdal and others. \nChristiane is the author of Outsmart Your Pain – Mindfulness and Self-Compassion to Help You Leave Chronic Pain Behind and the coauthor of A Clinician’s Guide to Teaching Mindfulness\, a classic training manual for mindfulness teachers. \nCheck www.christianewolf.com for more info. \nAn ADA-accessible entrance to the Glorya Kaufman Community Center is available through the gate from the parking lot at 10858 Culver Blvd. Limited floor space is first come\, first serve. Each week offers a different project\, connecting archival stories of subversion with contemporary making. \nWe encourage participants to bring an item each week—a T‑shirt\, a pair of jeans\, or any textile you’re ready to transform\, repair\, or experiment with. \nEach session is free\, open to all skill levels\, and guided by artists who delight in subversion and play. Come for one or come for all—together we’ll stitch\, alter\, repair\, and imagine new forms of expression. \nJoin us for Samizdat Sundays—hands‑on textile workshops inspired by the spirit of creative resistance and DIY culture found in samizdat traditions. Each week offers a different project\, connecting archival stories of subversion with contemporary making. \nHOW TO WRITE A DADAIST POEM \nJune 7\, 2026 \nTo end our month of Dada fun\, we will follow Tristan Tzara’s instructions to construct a Dadaist cut-up poem using vintage and new materials. This poem may be made of words\, colors\, textures\, objects\, or ideas. The poem may be the impetus for a collage made of vintage magazines or discarded textiles\, or perhaps will be embroidered on a shirt or sealed up in an envelope. In true Dada fashion\, the options are endless. Join us! \nNECKLACE A LA AZAZELLO \nJune 14\, 2026 \nIn honor of the Soviet Hippie and nonconformist Azazello (Anatoly Kalabin)\, whose extensive archive is in the Wende Museum’s collection\, we will make a necklace made of discarded materials. We will begin the workshop with a slideshow of the archive to get a sense of the artistic vision of Azazello. His journals are full of drawings\, doodles\, and poetry. Perhaps your necklace will feature an Azazello-style image or poem\, or perhaps yours will appear blank and without decoration\, but will hold a secret decoration away from public view. \nSECRET MESSAGE BRACELET \nJune 21\, 2026 \nToday we will make a bracelet that contains a secret message. Perhaps this message is made of symbols or objects\, a cryptic message that only you understand; or perhaps it is made of embroidered or written words that are understandable\, but are on a part of the bracelet that isn’t immediately visible. The bracelet may be designed to be noticed or designed to be worn in secret. \nTURN AN OLD TEE INTO A SHOPPING BAG \nJune 28\, 2026 \nIn this workshop\, we will turn an old tee into a shopping bag\, modeled after the plastic bags that are ubiquitous in our Age of Plastic. This bag can be gusseted or have a simple hem or even be hem-less\, tied together in a fringe-like manner. Perhaps your bag will rock whatever message was on the tee originally\, or perhaps you’ll embellish the bag with patches and embroidery. The choice is yours! \nAbout the teaching artist \nKate Ingold is an LA-based artist and poet working with the discarded\, the damaged\, and the worn out. Materials and methods include textiles\, collage\, photography\, video\, ceramics\, and performative installation. She works in series driven by conceptual concerns and is currently making work in two interwoven projects: Relics for Future Rituals and Damaged Goods/Small Repairs. \nRSVPs for this free program do not guarantee admission. DESCRIPTION:A new performance by Maral and her visual collaborator Annapurna Kumar\, Rearranging Rock explores sounds and images related to geologic time and the contents of the earth’s core. Inspired by the molten metals beneath us and the radioactive rays above\, the artists seek to translate material facts into sonic riffs and visual gestures. By considering still unanswered questions surrounding the basic building blocks of our world\, Maral and Annapurna tap into deep time\, radical ecology\, sludgecore\, and a playful\, ongoing dedication to experimentation. The performance features new work inspired by recent pilgrimages throughout the windy mountains and dusty deserts of Southern California\, a workshop on welding\, and lifelong obsessions with the folk art & music of Persia and India. \n“life is rock rearranging itself” \n-Vladimir Vernadsky  \nIn this 2026 season of the Wende Museum’s experimental music series FRAMEWORKS\, each featured artist will develop an interdisciplinary performance considering both domestic and public spaces as they relate to the artist’s singular perspective. Embodying the Wende’s ethos of promoting research into dynamic global networks and processes of transformation through an experimental lens\, the series’ bimonthly\, site-specific performances examine the “frameworks” through which we narrate the past and imagine the future; they complement the Museum’s exhibitions and programs while simultaneously acting as channels to contemporary scenes alive in Los Angeles. \nMaral’s sonic palette incorporates a collage of Iranian Classical & Folk samples and explores genres of experimental electronic production such as noise\, punk/post-punk\, and dub. Maral has released two critically acclaimed records\, Ground Groove (2022) and Push (2020) on Leaving Records. She has collaborated with artists such as Lee “Scratch” Perry\, Panda Bear\, Penny Rimbaud of Crass\, Anika and more. She has performed at venues like The Getty Museum\, LACMA\, Greek Theater\, Natural History Museum and more. Her work has been covered by major publications like Pitchfork\, NPR\, The Guardian\, and more. \nAnnapurna Kumar makes animated films and soft sculpture\, usually in connection to themes of extreme weather\, technological skepticism\, and human connection through collaboration. County and beyond\, while providing powerful testimony to the lived experiences and creativity of local and national Black women artists\, musicians\, and BIPOC community allies. This event is sponsored by the Women’s Leadership Project\, a Black feminist mentoring\, advocacy and civic engagement organization based in Los Angeles\, in partnership with Black Skeptics Los Angeles\, with generous funding made possible by the Culver City Cultural Affairs Commission and Sony Music. DESCRIPTION:Tuesday Men’s Club is a gathering for men to sit in meditation\, have an honest conversation\, and enjoy each other’s company. Men of all ages (our group ranges from 27 to 82) gather after work every other Tuesday. Some nights we talk about integrity\, grief\, or what it means to show up. Other nights it’s managing screen time\, coaching Little League\, parenting teenagers\, staying in shape\, or dealing with tennis elbows. \nThe format is simple: we introduce ourselves\, we meditate\, we talk\, and then we eat ice cream. \nWe meet the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of each month at 7pm at the Wende Museum. DESCRIPTION:The third installment of The Future of History series\, presented through the Meyer and Renee Luskin Public History Program at the Wende in conjunction with the UCLA Luskin Center for History and Policy. \nHistory does not only live in books and classrooms. It lives in museums\, libraries\, and archives\, where institutions work to keep the past within reach of everyone. That work now faces real threats: growing indifference and inattention\, misinformation and disinformation\, bold revisionism\, and the rising specter of artificial intelligence as the final arbiter of historical truth. \nThis conversation will feature renowned leaders of local and national institutions committed to imparting historical knowledge to a wide public. What are the challenges of the current political\, cultural\, and technological moment? Can the work of producing reliable and meaningful historical knowledge weather the storm? \nStephen Aron is President and CEO of the Autry Museum of the American West and Professor of History\, Emeritus\, at UCLA. A historian of frontiers\, borderlands\, and the American West\, he has long worked to bridge academic and public history. \nAnthea M. Hartig is the Elizabeth MacMillan Director of the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History\, the first woman to hold the post since the museum opened in 1964. An award-winning public historian\, she previously led the California Historical Society. \nJessie Kornberg is President and CEO of the Skirball Cultural Center\, which she has led since 2020. She came to the role after two decades in civil rights and public-interest law\, including as CEO of the legal aid organization Bet Tzedek. \nDavid N. Myers (moderator) is Distinguished Professor of History at UCLA and served as founding director of the UCLA Luskin Center for History and Policy (2017-2026). He convenes The Future of History series. \nTawny Paul (opening remarks) is director of the UCLA Luskin Center for History and Policy and a social and economic historian of Britain and the Atlantic World. Her public history work focuses on collaborative history-making and reaching wide audiences. \nAbout the Meyer and Renee Luskin Public History Program at the Wende: This series is made possible through the extraordinary generosity of Meyer and Renee Luskin\, visionary philanthropists whose support has advanced groundbreaking research and community engagement across Los Angeles and beyond. Through their commitment to education\, policy innovation\, and public history\, the Luskins have transformed institutions such as UCLA\, where the Luskin Center for History and Policy is pioneering efforts to apply historical analysis to contemporary challenges. Their dedication to fostering knowledge and civic dialogue ensures that history remains a vital resource in shaping a more just and informed society. \nAs the Wende’s galleries will be open during this program\, you may enter through the front doors of the museum.
