Amidst severe oppression\, more than 300 films were produced to promote the strict form of Marxism espoused by its omnipotent gold-toothed dictator\, Enver Hoxha. \nIn THE DREAM & THE LIE\, Albanian-American artist Elena Dorfman reimagines this rarely seen cinematic archive into a powerful\, immersive triptych art film. Composed of dozens of propaganda features and documentaries from the Albanian National Film Archive\, the work is a visual symphony in three movements\, exploring nationalism\, forced modernization\, and the human cost of state control. \nAt once haunting and poetic\, THE DREAM & THE LIE examines the tension between art and politics as something both specific and universal. In today’s world\, where the arts face increasing challenges under ideologically repressive governments\, Dorfman’s film serves as a poignant reminder of the enduring power of artistic expression\, and as a tribute to the artists who create compelling work despite severe restrictions. \nJoin us for a screening followed by a Q&A with the artist. \nBio: \nElena Dorfman is an Albanian American artist working in film and photography. DESCRIPTION:Join us for our new weekly mindfulness meditations. Whether you are new to meditation or already have experience we welcome you to this community sit in the beautiful garden of the Wende Museum. \nYou do not have to join all sessions but can join as your schedule allows. \nWhat is mindfulness? Mindfulness is being fully present to your life instead of being on autopilot. Our mind tends to rehash the past and to rehearse the future. There is nothing wrong with that except that it does it too much and it keeps us from being with what is actually happening right in this moment. We can feel like life is passing us by and we miss a lot of good moments with family and friends\, in nature and just throughout the day. When we are present we become better listeners and observers and will make better choices\, big and small. People who regularly practice mindfulness meditation report overall stress levels going down and being able to deal with whatever comes their way in a better\, healthier way. They also feel more connected and more joyful. \nWe practice this through mindfulness meditation where we train the mind to stay with an anchor\, like the sensations of the breath. Eventually the mind will calm down and so will the body. We learn tools to be with a busy mind\, challenging emotions\, and even physical pain. We can access peace\, calm and joy that arises independently of what’s going on in our lives at this time. \nTeacher Bio: \nChristiane Wolf is an internationally known mindfulness and Insight (Vipassana) meditation teacher. Originally from Berlin\, Germany\, she is a longtime proud resident of Culver City where her three children attended (or still attend) CCMS and CCHS. \nChristiane was trained as an OB/GYN in Germany but pivoted to not only practicing mindfulness meditation but then teaching it\, mainly through InsightLA. \nShe was trained and mentored by Trudy Goodman\, Jack Kornfield\, Jon Kabat-Zinn\, Gil Fronsdal \nand others. \nChristiane is the author of Outsmart Your Pain – Mindfulness and Self-Compassion to Help You Leave Chronic Pain Behind and the coauthor of A Clinician’s Guide to Teaching Mindfulness\, a classic training manual for mindfulness teachers. \nCheck www.christianewolf.com for more info. \nAn ADA-accessible entrance to the Glorya Kaufman Community Center is available through the gate from the parking lot at 10858 Culver Blvd.

DESCRIPTION:An immersive audio/visual performance exploring India’s unique position and contributions during the Cold War.\n\n\nAn immersive audio/visual performance exploring India’s unique position and contributions during the Cold War. \nFRAMEWORKS is a new interdisciplinary music series for 2025 designed to take audiences on an adventurous cultural and artistic journey in the state-of-the-art A-Frame Theater at the Wende Museum’s Glorya Kaufman Community Center. The series merges creative disciplines\, from film and dance to poetry and music\, and takes inspiration from the collection and exhibitions of the Wende. \nJoin Sadubas at the Wende Museum on May 3\, 2025 at 2 p.m. for Echoes of Diplomacy: India’s Sonic Footprint in the Cold War Era. This immersive audio/visual performance will explore India’s unique position and contributions during the Cold War. India\, under the leadership of its first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru\, pursued a policy of non-alignment\, positioning itself as a critical player in the geopolitics of the time that set the stage for India’s current position as a global nuclear superpower. This historical context provides a rich tapestry for a performance that weaves together music\, Bollywood cinema\, and visual storytelling. \nSADUBAS is the collaborative duo of classical tabla artist Robin Sukhadia and electronic producer Ameet Mehta. The two artists grew up together playing Commodore 64 video games\, consuming international films of the 70s and 80s\, and began experimenting with long form beat and rhythms sequences after relocating to San Francisco and acquiring an MPC 2000 and Technics 1200. Robin and Ameet use each other as mediums summoning a hybrid of South Asian classical rhythms\, electronic music\, Bollywood psychedelia with cinematic undertones that construct the sounds of SADUBAS: The Sadhus of Bass. They have performed at a wide range of prestigious venues and institutions across Los Angeles and Southern California\, including The Academy of Motion Pictures Museum\, LACMA\, the Hammer Museum\, and the Bowers Museum. Participants of all ages write to prompts to spark creativity\, share stories and build community. We write to surprise ourselves and discover the bounty of stories that lie within. \nWe come together and write\, choose to share (or not\, you decide)\, listen and write some more.We do this in the beautiful environs of the Wende Museum and its provocative and compelling collection. DESCRIPTION:Join us for our new weekly mindfulness meditations. Whether you are new to meditation or already have experience we welcome you to this community sit in the beautiful garden of the Wende Museum. \nYou do not have to join all sessions but can join as your schedule allows. \nWhat is mindfulness? Mindfulness is being fully present to your life instead of being on autopilot. Our mind tends to rehash the past and to rehearse the future. There is nothing wrong with that except that it does it too much and it keeps us from being with what is actually happening right in this moment. We can feel like life is passing us by and we miss a lot of good moments with family and friends\, in nature and just throughout the day. When we are present we become better listeners and observers and will make better choices\, big and small. People who regularly practice mindfulness meditation report overall stress levels going down and being able to deal with whatever comes their way in a better\, healthier way. They also feel more connected and more joyful. \nWe practice this through mindfulness meditation where we train the mind to stay with an anchor\, like the sensations of the breath. Eventually the mind will calm down and so will the body. We learn tools to be with a busy mind\, challenging emotions\, and even physical pain. We can access peace\, calm and joy that arises independently of what’s going on in our lives at this time. \nTeacher Bio: \nChristiane Wolf is an internationally known mindfulness and Insight (Vipassana) meditation teacher. Originally from Berlin\, Germany\, she is a longtime proud resident of Culver City where her three children attended (or still attend) CCMS and CCHS. \nChristiane was trained as an OB/GYN in Germany but pivoted to not only practicing mindfulness meditation but then teaching it\, mainly through InsightLA. \nShe was trained and mentored by Trudy Goodman\, Jack Kornfield\, Jon Kabat-Zinn\, Gil Fronsdal \nand others. \nChristiane is the author of Outsmart Your Pain – Mindfulness and Self-Compassion to Help You Leave Chronic Pain Behind and the coauthor of A Clinician’s Guide to Teaching Mindfulness\, a classic training manual for mindfulness teachers. \nCheck www.christianewolf.com for more info. \nAn ADA-accessible entrance to the Glorya Kaufman Community Center is available through the gate from the parking lot at 10858 Culver Blvd.

Open to all 2024-25 school year high school students\, with valid student ID required at the door. \nThe evening is themed on the Wende Museum’s current exhibition Counter/Surveillance: Control\, Privacy\, Agency\, which features installations of Cold War-era surveillance technology alongside contemporary art installations that speak to the evolution of surveillance in the present day. \nStudent installations will involve a live-streamed video feed\, and by attending this event\, you consent to being filmed. The EIBB gives a new life to jazz hits that transformed the American music landscape throughout history. Through improvisation\, EIBB musicians bring a unique experience to every performance. SUMMARY:Wende Museum Meditations with Christiane Wolf
DESCRIPTION:Join us for weekly mindfulness meditations. All are welcome\, regardless of experience level.\n\n\nJoin us for our new weekly mindfulness meditations. Whether you are new to meditation or already have experience we welcome you to this community sit in the beautiful garden of the Wende Museum. \nYou do not have to join all sessions but can join as your schedule allows. \nWhat is mindfulness? Mindfulness is being fully present to your life instead of being on autopilot. Our mind tends to rehash the past and to rehearse the future. There is nothing wrong with that except that it does it too much and it keeps us from being with what is actually happening right in this moment. We can feel like life is passing us by and we miss a lot of good moments with family and friends\, in nature and just throughout the day. When we are present we become better listeners and observers and will make better choices\, big and small. People who regularly practice mindfulness meditation report overall stress levels going down and being able to deal with whatever comes their way in a better\, healthier way. They also feel more connected and more joyful. \nWe practice this through mindfulness meditation where we train the mind to stay with an anchor\, like the sensations of the breath. Eventually the mind will calm down and so will the body. We learn tools to be with a busy mind\, challenging emotions\, and even physical pain. We can access peace\, calm and joy that arises independently of what’s going on in our lives at this time. \nTeacher Bio: \nChristiane Wolf is an internationally known mindfulness and Insight (Vipassana) meditation teacher. Originally from Berlin\, Germany\, she is a longtime proud resident of Culver City where her three children attended (or still attend) CCMS and CCHS. \nChristiane was trained as an OB/GYN in Germany but pivoted to not only practicing mindfulness meditation but then teaching it\, mainly through InsightLA. \nShe was trained and mentored by Trudy Goodman\, Jack Kornfield\, Jon Kabat-Zinn\, Gil Fronsdal \nand others. \nChristiane is the author of Outsmart Your Pain – Mindfulness and Self-Compassion to Help You Leave Chronic Pain Behind and the coauthor of A Clinician’s Guide to Teaching Mindfulness\, a classic training manual for mindfulness teachers. \nCheck www.christianewolf.com for more info. \nAn ADA-accessible entrance to the Glorya Kaufman Community Center is available through the gate from the parking lot at 10858 Culver Blvd.

Please arrive 5 or 10 minutes early to get settled\, as we start the group promptly at 4pm. \nWe are excited to come together in community\, to dive into our creativity and share our stories. \nWhat is Saved by a Story-Intergenerational Writing Workshop at the Wende Museum? Participants of all ages write to prompts to spark creativity\, share stories and build community. We write to surprise ourselves and discover the bounty of stories that lie within. \nWe come together and write\, choose to share (or not\, you decide)\, listen and write some more.We do this in the beautiful environs of the Wende Museum and its provocative and compelling collection.
