SUMMARY:Wellness Wednesday: Mindful Meditations with Christiane Wolf
DESCRIPTION:Join us for our weekly mindfulness meditations. Whether you are new to meditation or already have experience we welcome you to this community sit in the beautiful garden of the Wende Museum. \nYou do not have to join all sessions but can join as your schedule allows. \nWhat is mindfulness? Mindfulness is being fully present to your life instead of being on autopilot. Our mind tends to rehash the past and to rehearse the future. There is nothing wrong with that except that it does it too much and it keeps us from being with what is actually happening right in this moment. We can feel like life is passing us by and we miss a lot of good moments with family and friends\, in nature and just throughout the day. When we are present we become better listeners and observers and will make better choices\, big and small. People who regularly practice mindfulness meditation report overall stress levels going down and being able to deal with whatever comes their way in a better\, healthier way. They also feel more connected and more joyful. \nWe practice this through mindfulness meditation where we train the mind to stay with an anchor\, like the sensations of the breath. Eventually the mind will calm down and so will the body. We learn tools to be with a busy mind\, challenging emotions\, and even physical pain. We can access peace\, calm and joy that arises independently of what’s going on in our lives at this time. \nTeacher Bio: \nChristiane Wolf is an internationally known mindfulness and Insight (Vipassana) meditation teacher. Originally from Berlin\, Germany\, she is a longtime proud resident of Culver City where her three children attended (or still attend) CCMS and CCHS. \nChristiane was trained as an OB/GYN in Germany but pivoted to not only practicing mindfulness meditation but then teaching it\, mainly through InsightLA. \nShe was trained and mentored by Trudy Goodman\, Jack Kornfield\, Jon Kabat-Zinn\, Gil Fronsdal \nand others. \nChristiane is the author of Outsmart Your Pain – Mindfulness and Self-Compassion to Help You Leave Chronic Pain Behind and the coauthor of A Clinician’s Guide to Teaching Mindfulness\, a classic training manual for mindfulness teachers. \nCheck www.christianewolf.com for more info. \nAn ADA-accessible entrance to the Glorya Kaufman Community Center is available through the gate from the parking lot at 10858 Culver Blvd.

SUMMARY:The Tragedy of Franz Liszt: A Recital with Michael Walsh
DESCRIPTION:As a special event for the American Freedom Alliance\, Michael Walsh is coming to Los Angeles to perform a piano recital prior to his concert tour across Europe: \nTHE TRAGEDY OF FRANZ LISZT \n1) Liszt\, Transcendental Etude No. 1 “Preludio”\n2) Liszt\, Five Hungarian Folksongs\n3) Liszt: The Chapel of William Tell (Annees de pelerinage\, Bk 1)\n4) Wagner: Album-Sonata in A-flat (for Mathilde Wesendonck) \nINTERMISSION\n5) Liszt: Angelus! Prière aux anges gardiens (Annees\, Bk 3)\n6) Liszt: Cypresses of the Villa d’Este II (Annees\, Bk 3)\n7) Liszt: Mephisto Waltz #4\n8) Sursum Corda (Annees\, Bk. 3) \nThe recital is free\, but you must pre-register as space is limited \nAbout Michael Walsh \nThe author of 19 published novels and non-fiction books and a lifetime member of the Writers Guild of America\, the Hollywood screenwriters’ union\, Michael Walsh was for 16 years the classical music critic and a foreign correspondent for Time Magazine\, for which he covered Vladimir Horowitz’s 1986 return to Russia as well as the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989 and the end of the U.S.S.R in 1991. \nHe won the 2004 American Book Awards prize for fiction for his novel\, And All the Saints\, a fictionalized autobiography of the notorious Irish-American gangster\, Owney Madden\, bought before publication by MGM\, and also wrote As Time Goes By\, a licensed novelistic sequel to the movie Casablanca for Warner Books. In addition\, he is the co-writer of hit Disney Channel movie Cadet Kelly\, which at its debut in 2002 was the highest-rated show and highest-rated original movie in the history of the channel. \nHis books The Devil’s Pleasure Palace and The Fiery Angel have become foundational in any discussion of the importance of restoring Western civilization. His book Last Stands: Why Men Fight When All is Lost has been described by Victor Davis Hanson as “a philosophical and spiritual defense of the premodern world\, of the tragic view\, of physical courage\, and of masculinity and self-sacrifice in an age when those ancient virtues are too often caricatured and dismissed.” \nHIs most recent book is A Rage to Conquer: Twelve Battles That Changed the Course of Western History which was the focus of an AFA-David Horowitz Freedom Center event at which he tied together great military battles and the music that formed their backdrop. It was that event that inspired this recital. \nMichael has spoken at several AFA events including last year’s “War on Men” conference and the 2019 “Long March” conference\, and the AFA looks forward to this special evening!

SUMMARY:How Can We Not Know What We Know?: A Workshop in Sublimation
DESCRIPTION:Artist Robby Herbst invites participants into what he calls “the emotional illogic of hiding from yourself” and “communicating through impractical means.” Over 90 minutes\, he will guide the group through exercises that ask people to move\, act\, write\, speak\, and play\, sometimes in ways they might not expect. Herbst notes that “together this will add up to a kind of communication\, which could be understood as a kind of art.” \nThis is not a sit back and watch event. Participants will be asked to interact with one another\, and the exercises will include physical contact. It is designed for those who are curious and daring enough to step into an experience led by\, and shared with\, others. \nPlease note: Peanut butter will be used in this workshop. Participants with allergies should take necessary precautions. \nAbout the artist: \nRobby Herbst is an interdisciplinary artist whose work interrogates social and behavioral architectures through social sculpture\, organizing\, writing\, publishing and visual art. An instigator of the geographically sited critical landscape projects of the Llano Del Rio Collective and a co-founder of the critical art collective The Journal of Aesthetics and Protest\, Herbst has been an artist in residence at the Headlands Center for the Arts\, Villa Montalvo\, and Provisions Library. His projects have been supported by the Andy Warhol Foundation for Artwriting\, The Mike Kelley Foundation\, The Danish Arts Council\, and the Durfee Foundation.

SUMMARY:Wellness Wednesday: Mindful Meditations with Christiane Wolf
DESCRIPTION:Join us for our weekly mindfulness meditations. Whether you are new to meditation or already have experience we welcome you to this community sit in the beautiful A-Frame Theater of the Wende Museum’s Glorya Kaufman Community Center \nYou do not have to join all sessions but can join as your schedule allows. \nThe guest teacher for this installment is Dr. Allyson Pimentel. \nAn ADA-accessible entrance to the Glorya Kaufman Community Center is available through the gate from the parking lot at 10858 Culver Blvd. Limited floor space is first come\, first serve. Please arrive early as RSVP does not guarentee admission to this free program.
