SUMMARY:Wellness Wednesday: Mindfulness Meditations
DESCRIPTION:Join us for our weekly mindfulness meditations. Whether you are new to meditation or already have experience we welcome you to this community sit in the beautiful A-Frame Theater of the Wende Museum’s Glorya Kaufman Community Center \nYou do not have to join all sessions but can join as your schedule allows. Each session is followed by complimentary garden refreshments and an optional movement class. \nWhat is mindfulness? Mindfulness is being fully present to your life instead of being on autopilot. Our mind tends to rehash the past and to rehearse the future. There is nothing wrong with that except that it does it too much and it keeps us from being with what is actually happening right in this moment. We can feel like life is passing us by and we miss a lot of good moments with family and friends\, in nature and just throughout the day. When we are present we become better listeners and observers and will make better choices\, big and small. People who regularly practice mindfulness meditation report overall stress levels going down and being able to deal with whatever comes their way in a better\, healthier way. They also feel more connected and more joyful. \nWe practice this through mindfulness meditation where we train the mind to stay with an anchor\, like the sensations of the breath. Eventually the mind will calm down and so will the body. We learn tools to be with a busy mind\, challenging emotions\, and even physical pain. We can access peace\, calm and joy that arises independently of what’s going on in our lives at this time. \nTeacher Bio: \nChristiane Wolf is an internationally known mindfulness and Insight (Vipassana) meditation teacher. Originally from Berlin\, Germany\, she is a longtime proud resident of Culver City where her three children attended (or still attend) CCMS and CCHS. \nChristiane was trained as an OB/GYN in Germany but pivoted to not only practicing mindfulness meditation but then teaching it\, mainly through InsightLA. \nShe was trained and mentored by Trudy Goodman\, Jack Kornfield\, Jon Kabat-Zinn\, Gil Fronsdal and others. \nChristiane is the author of Outsmart Your Pain – Mindfulness and Self-Compassion to Help You Leave Chronic Pain Behind and the coauthor of A Clinician’s Guide to Teaching Mindfulness\, a classic training manual for mindfulness teachers. \nCheck www.christianewolf.com for more info. \nAn ADA-accessible entrance to the Glorya Kaufman Community Center is available through the gate from the parking lot at 10858 Culver Blvd. Limited floor space is first come\, first serve. Please arrive early as RSVP does not guarantee admission to this free program.

An excerpt from Match in a Haystack\, a 2025 documentary produced in association with the Pulitzer Center\, will also be shown. \nDoors will open at 12:30pm\, and programming will run from 1-3pm\, with a wine reception to follow from 3-4pm. \nAdmission is free\, and books will be sold by a local Los Angeles bookstore. Attendees are encouraged to arrive early to check out the latest exhibitions. \nThis event is a partnership with Dear Diary\, a series curated and hosted by Veronika Kelemen.

SUMMARY:Tea Dances at the Glorya Kaufman Community Center
DESCRIPTION:The Wende Museum’s Tea Dance series invites you to move\, mingle\, and unwind through the joyful rhythm of social dance. Hosted in the Glorya Kaufman Community Center\, each session features different dance traditions\, ranging from Argentine tango to vintage swing\, led by local artists and dance instructors. No experience or partner required. \nTea dances originated in early 20th-century Britain and America as daytime socials\, often held in hotels and ballrooms\, offering live music\, light refreshments\, and a welcoming space for community connection. Revived in the queer communities of mid-century America\, the tradition evolved into a vibrant celebration of expression and belonging. \nIn that spirit\, our Sunday Tea Dances offer a space to unplug\, connect\, and move together. These afternoons are for everyone: curious beginners\, practiced dancers\, and people just looking to enjoy good music and warm company. \nCome for the class\, stay for the social\, and rediscover the art of togetherness. \nFree and open to all. Comfortable shoes are encouraged. \nGroove and Step:\n\nThis is an all levels dance class that captures certain elements of traditional southern line dance and hip hop choreography simultaneously! The class will involve choreography however\, there is still space for individual creativity and unique dance expression. Groove and Step cultivates energy\, connection\, and JOY! After an initial period to mix and mingle\, an hour-long class will begin at 3:30\, after which time\, attendees will be invited to share their own line dances with the group during the open session until 6:00 pm!About the instructor: \nRonnie Martin is a professional dancer/choreographer from New Orleans\, Louisiana. He has been a part of two major dance companies\, So Real Dance Co. and Texas Southern Dance Co. and has been teaching all levels of hip hop choreography for the past 10 years. Once he relocated to LA he developed a love and passion for fitness which encouraged him to create his own fun and effective way to have the best of both worlds (Dance and Fitness). He has been teaching hip hop cardio classes for 7 years now and line dance classes for 5 years! He believes that Dance fitness is great way to get active as well decompress. His goal is to constantly create spaces for the advancement of physical and mental health in a creative way!

SUMMARY:S.U.T@LA – Vipassana Meditation Practice Group
DESCRIPTION:Practice Isn’t Just on the Cushion — It’s Wherever Life Takes Us \nOur practice is inspired by the teachings of Sayadaw U Tejaniya (S.U.T)\, which invite us to bring wise awareness into every part of life. Mindfulness isn’t just for the cushion — it’s for the small\, ordinary moments that make up our days. \nSome weeks\, we’ll sit together in silence at the Wende Museum. Other times\, practice might take us outdoors for a gentle hike\, to a public event\, on a mindful shopping trip\, or even online via Zoom. Wherever we are\, the essence of practice remains the same: staying present\, open\, and kind. \nThis new L.A.-based sangha is rooted in curiosity\, ease\, and Dharma friendship. Together\, we’ll explore how to live with awareness and discover what unfolds when we meet life just as it is. We warmly invite you to join us — to sit\, to walk\, to laugh\, and to grow together on this path of practice. \nWe hope to see you soon.

SUMMARY:FRAMEWORKS | Ashla Chavez-Razzano: HAVANA DIALECTIC
DESCRIPTION:HAVANA DIALECTIC is an ambient musical performance by artist Ashla Chavez-Razzano\, inspired by the urban soundscapes of Los Angeles\, California\, and Havana\, Cuba. The performance abstracts urban and natural environments local to the two cities as a way of reconciling places of exile and expansion. Three musicians—upright bassist Tate Chavez\, percussionist Zach Gotler\, and wind player Collin McCrary—will perform alongside ambient sound composition and experimental cinema vérité by Chavez-Razzano. Their organic\, meditative swelling of improvisation will complement the ever-changing visual collages of urban life in Los Angeles and Havana. Through found sound\, video\, poetry\, and live musical improvisation\, the piece explores new forms of the philosophical “dialectic”: between musician and field recordings; between contrasting urban landscapes; between ideals of advancement and realities of decline. \nThis performance inaugurates the 2026 season of the Wende Museum’s experimental music series FRAMEWORKS. This season\, each featured artist will develop an interdisciplinary performance considering both domestic and public spaces as they relate to the artist’s singular perspective. Each artist will reflect on the subtle implications of space\, as functional and measurable records of cities or cultures; versus place\, the conceptual and felt imaginings of the familiar or alien. Embodying the Wende’s ethos of promoting research into dynamic global networks and processes of transformation through an experimental lens\, the series’ bimonthly\, site-specific performances examine the “frameworks” through which we narrate the past and imagine the future; they complement the Museum’s exhibitions and programs while simultaneously acting as channels to contemporary scenes alive in Los Angeles. \nThere will be a complimentary reception prior to the program\, starting at 1 p.m. The performance will begin at 2 p.m. \nAshla Chavez-Razzano is a Los Angeles–based writer\, musician\, and curatorial consultant whose work traces the emotional and social possibilities of sound. Moving between writing\, music\, radio\, and performance\, her practice is rooted in storytelling through experimentation and active listening. In 2024\, Ashla debuted her sound-art at STADTWERKSTATT in Berlin. Since 2023\, she has been the artistic director of art-folk band Rabbit Rabbit Rabbit. As resident DJ of radio stations DUBLAB and KTPC 99.1 FM in Venice\, Ashla has utilized the medium of sound as a method of connection\, whether in person or on the air. Her writing has been recognized in Poets & Writers Magazine\, SPIN Magazine\, and Dream Boy Book Club.
