This collection of 24 photographs reveals the highly detailed and intricate spatial organisation of the Checkpoint Charlie border crossing area. Checkpoint Charlie was the name given by the Western Allies to the best known Berlin Wall crossing point between East Berlin and West Berlin during the Cold War. These photographs situate the Checkpoint in the context of the surrounding streets and previously residential neighborhoods, including images of traffic zones, barricades, road markings and the direction of the flow of traffic. The aerial view gives a sense of the great expanse and carefully controlled border crossing.
