Description

A "Jugendweihe" booklet that is in shades of blue and white. The front cover shows an image of a boy and a girl reading a book, "Weltall Erde Mensch," together. A Jugendweihe was a secular coming of age ceremony for East German 14 year olds. The booklet was intended to prepare children for the ceremony in conjunction with a series of courses to be completed in the year leading up to the ceremony. The booklet was meant to provide youth with guidlines one how to be productive citizens of the GDR. Featured in this booklet is the program for the 1955 ceremony, where 60,000 youths participated.
