A 112 page photobook documenting dramatic events that occurred along the Berlin Wall from August 13th, 1961 up until the time of publication in 1968. According to the foreword by Ernst Lemmer, the Federal Chancellor's special commissioner for Berlin, the intention of the book is to remember the injustices that occurred at the Wall and to show its problematic and dangerous nature. The photographs are black and white, and the incidents are described in five langauges: German, English, French, Spanish and Italian. The book records events such as attempted and successful escapes across the border, the smuggling of refugees in cars, violent confrontations between military personnel and refugees, fatalities that occurred in the No Man's Land or "deathstrip" on the East side of the Berlin Wall, aerial views of the border crossings, President Kennedy's visit to West Berlin in 1963, and protests against the division of the city. The book clearly conveys the deadliness of the Berlin Wall and the desperate attempts made to cross into West Berlin in spite of that.
