Oversized green magazine with half tan and half red text. This issue focuses on the railroad industry in the Soviet Union, which was heavily impacted by the First World War. It highlights progress in locomotive engineering and freight trains, and refers to Lenin's belief of the importance of mechanizing difficult labor processes. It also covers plans to greatly expand the railroad network across the USSR, and highlights that while passenger traffic in Western Europe was falling, in the USSR it was rising as a transport method for farmers and workers. Contextual Note: 'USSR in Construction' was a Soviet propaganda magazine published from 1930 to 1941 and briefly in 1949. Printed in the USSR and distributed internationally, it was issued in five languages: Russian, English, German, French, and Spanish (added in 1938). The magazine aimed to promote Soviet achievements abroad through striking photography and avant-garde design.
