Think, Don't Think...

Date Made: 1988-1991
Country: Soviet Union

Method: Tempera paint on fiberboard
Measurements: 90 cm x 60 cm; 35 7/16 in x 23 5/8 in

This painting features what looks like a man with his head buried in his hands, as if he had a headache but he has a stone head with the initials “KPSS” engraved on it. The hands look like human flesh but the head looks like a stone sculpture. Taking into account that the name of this painting is "Think, Don't Think..." and it took Lozenko approximately four years to complete, we can infer that the he is condemning the Communist Party of the Soviet Union (KPSS) for the failure of people to think for themselves. All that was engraved in peoples’ minds was fear of the KPSS.
