Corrections and Collections: Joe Day in Conversation With Frances Anderton

Please join us for a vivid conversation between author and architect Joe Day, and author, journalist, and architectural thinker Frances Anderton. In 2013, Joe Day’s groundbreaking book Corrections and Collections: Architectures for Art and Crime was published by Routledge. In conjunction with our exhibition Visions of Transcendence, which showcases the work of incarcerated artists, Day and Anderton will reflect on the surprising parallels between architectural designs intended to enforce discipline and those created to celebrate beauty.

Joe Day leads Deegan-Day Design and Architecture and is a faculty member for architectural design, history, and theory at the Southern California Institute of Architecture (SCI-Arc) in Los Angeles, USA. Day examines the intersections of contemporary art, urbanism, and architecture as visual disciplines.

Frances Anderton is the author of the book Common Ground: Multifamily Housing in Los Angeles. She is co-author of Awesome and Affordable: Great Housing Now, a multimedia project for Friends of Residential Treasures: Los Angeles (FORT: LA). She writes a regular newsletter on design and architecture for KCRW public radio station, for which she previously hosted the show DnA: Design and Architecture, and produced the current affairs shows Which Way, LA? and To the Point.
