Screening & Conversation by Cornerstone Theater Company: What Happens Next
What Happens Next is a play created with, for, and about veterans and their loved ones, inspired by stories shared by the military community in San Diego. Written by Naomi Iizuka and directed by Michael John Garcés, the play explores the complexities of sacrifice and resilience of people who have served and sheds light on what they carry into their civilian lives. The cast combines Cornerstone and guest artist actors with military veterans onstage.
The original production of What Happens Next was commissioned by the La Jolla Playhouse for its Without Walls program, premiering at the Challenged Athletes Foundation in San Diego, April 19 – 29, 2018. The show was remounted and presented at Challenged Athletes Foundation and UC Irvine in November 2019. Cornerstone re-imagined What Happens Next as a Zoom play that premiered online, June 24-27, 2021.
This screening will be presented outside in the garden of the Wende Museum and will be followed by a conversation with the audience.
This performance is made possible in part by the City of Culver City and its Cultural Affairs Commission, with support from Sony Pictures Entertainment and the Culver City Arts Foundation.
