DEADLINE EXTENDED: Wende Museum and Thomas Mann House Student Council Applications Due

The Wende Museum and Thomas Mann House Student Council is a group of current undergraduate and graduate students that remotely organizes and hosts a dynamic monthly interview series, inviting prominent guest speakers to discuss topics relating to art, culture, politics, and society.

The Council is a team of highly engaged, talented, and diverse students. In conversation with artists, historians, journalists, politicians, activists, and others, the students explore how democracies can successfully deal with increasing global levels of ecological, political, social, cultural and economic stress and polarization. Previous interview series the Council has hosted have been themed “In Search of Truth” (2022) and “The Political Mandate of the Arts” (2023). The interview series are presented in partnership with dublab, a Los Angeles-based online radio station.

The theme of the Council’s 2024 interview series will be “Democracy and Vulnerability,” in keeping with the Thomas Mann House’s annual topic for the year. The Council is seeking new members for the 2024 cohort. All online via Zoom, the Council meets once mid-month to plan the series, and then hosts one live online interview at the end of each month. A time commitment of 8 hours total per month is expected (including team meetings, independent research time, and interviews), for which participants are compensated.

Participants must have access to a stable internet connection and be able to consistently attend meetings and interviews; otherwise, and apart from current student status, there are no formal requirements to join the Council.

Applications must be submitted by Monday, December 11, 2023 at 12pm PT. To apply, click here.

Please reach out to Wende Museum Special Projects Assistant Gina Segall (gsegall@wendemuseum.org) with any questions.
