You Must Take Part in Revolution: Melissa Chan and Badiucao in Conversation
From Emmy-nominated journalist Melissa Chan and exiled Chinese activist artist Badiucao comes a near-future dystopian graphic novel about the lengths that one will go to in the fight for freedom. YOU MUST TAKE PART IN REVOLUTION is set in a world where a fascist United States and a techno-authoritarian China are at war, with the story moving between locations in Hong Kong, Taiwan, and beyond.
Join the authors in conversation with Wende Museum Chief Curator and Director of Programming Joes Segal. The two will discuss their collaboration at the intersection of art, activism, and journalism — reflecting on both the craft of producing their book inspired by and in the tradition of graphic novels such as MAUS and PERSEPOLIS, and also share how their lived experiences working and living in China informed their storytelling.
Badiucao previously worked for Ai Weiwei in Berlin and is a recipient of the Václav Havel International Prize for Creative Dissent.
Chan’s reporting has taken her everywhere from Pyongyang to Moscow to Havana.
A reception in the garden will follow.
