Tiananmen Tonight: Journalism and Courage
A free screening of the new documentary about the Tiananmen Square student demonstrations in Beijing. This is a story of American journalism and the telling of truth in service to democracy. Tiananmen Tonight reveals the powerful human drama of a network television news team battling for life and reputation while courageously reporting the extraordinary student uprising in 1989 that brought the Chinese nation to the brink of democratic reform. The film tracks the entire 7 week period of the occupation and is considered to be the high point in television broadcast journalism.
Following the screening, there will be a discussion with Bestor Cram and Michael Streissguth, the filmmakers, and Dr. Chaohua Wang, Professor of Asian Languages and Cultures at UCLA.
Community Partner programs are hosted on site but are independently organized and may not reflect the views of the Wende Museum. For questions regarding this event, please contact the event organizer.
