Join writers sharing original work on how bathing and belonging shape their lives and the growing bathing culture in the U.S.
Much of what we recognize as communal bathing culture in the U.S. (the banya, the jjimjilbang, the hammam, the schvitz, the onsen, the gay bathhouse) was built by immigrant and diaspora communities. Shared Waters brings together artists and writers to explore the intersection of bathing, art, and culture through film and readings.
The evening is a collaboration between Fluid Form — a newsletter and event series about bathing culture and the communities that build it, and the Wende Museum — a Los Angeles institution dedicated to Cold War history and cultural memory. We’re excited to gather and explore the communal act of bathing, and its role in many cultures both present day and historically.
Community Partner programs are hosted on site but are independently organized and may not reflect the views of the Wende Museum. For questions regarding this event, please contact the event organizer.
