In this specific journal, Azazello contemplates questions of morality, divinity, spirituality, and beauty. Azazello seeks to understand both his existence and his surroundings through a rigorous, intellectual expedition. For a good chunk of the journal, Azazello tries to teach himself the major themes, terms, and practices of Southasian religious traditions. He makes lists of Hindu gods, yogic practices, and important Southasian landmarks. Azazello even devotes multiple pages to contemplative prayer. About two thirds through the journal, Azazello becomes more concerned with God, and the ways in which He is manifested in nature. He believes the more faithful you are to God, the happier you will be. He also believes the more time you spend praying and breathing, the closer you come to God. As Azazello writes, “God is isolation. God is closure in yourself.”--C.N., 2021
