7th Pioneer Gathering poster, featuring an image of Young Pioneers waving scarves of various colors. The photograph has a blue triangular border on one side and red one on th eother, as well as a cartoon pioneer with the words "VII. PIONIERTREFFEN DRESDEN 1982" around it.

Collection/Series: Ernst Thälmann (1886 – 1944) was the leader of the Communist Party of Germany (KPD) during much of the Weimar Republic. He was arrested by the Gestapo in 1933 and held in solitary confinement for eleven years, before being shot in Buchenwald on Hitler’s orders in 1944. After 1945, Ernst Thälmann, and other leading communists who had died violently, such as Rosa Luxemburg and Karl Liebknecht, were widely honored in East Germany, with many schools, streets, factories and youth groups named after them.
