Bijsterveld: “As soon as the tapes of calls had been transcribed and analyzed, most were reused, with adverse effects on quality. West Berlin families driving back and forth to West Germany, thus crossing the East German border, were often forced to hand the GDR border police their music cassette tapes, which could be reused by the Stasi for its surveillance work. Archivists working with the tapes today may well have to listen to half an hour of German Schlager hits [popular songs] before they suddenly hear a wiretapped telephone call.” [ItemName] => briefcase [LinkedMedia] => Array ( [0] => Array ( [MediaRef] => http://23.114.65.41:8082/api/xg/tenants/api/resources/media/151875 [Media_Type] => IMAGE [Media] => ump.di?e=3054DAB5AC6D183916DF6F88272C9C3B4C907464011B1AE4E1B836ED058022CD&s=&se=&f=%5Cd4810%5Cu11848107%5C2011_900_026_A_o2.jpg [Step] => 1 [Media_Locator] => https://piction.wendemuseum.org/piction/ ) ) [PlaceMade] => Germany [ItemsExhibitions] => Array ( [0] => Array ( [FullName] => Counter/Surveillance: Control, Privacy, Agency [CatalogueRef] => http://23.114.65.41:8082/api/xg/tenants/api/resources/catalogue/13603 [ExhibitionRef] => http://23.114.65.41:8082/api/xg/tenants/api/resources/exhibitions/54 ) ) [Culture] => German Democratic Republic ) ) [fetchCount] => 1 [@controls] => Array ( [records:last] => Array ( [href] => http://23.114.65.41:8082/api/xg/tenants/api/resources/catalogue/records/eA7D8vAXt9GRrHhwXW1u25cyI3ZcKzFK?offset=1&limit=1&pagesize=15 [title] => Go to last row ) [records:first] => Array ( [href] => http://23.114.65.41:8082/api/xg/tenants/api/resources/catalogue/records/eA7D8vAXt9GRrHhwXW1u25cyI3ZcKzFK?offset=1&limit=1&pagesize=15 [title] => Go to first row ) [records:clear] => Array ( [method] => DELETE [href] => http://23.114.65.41:8082/api/xg/tenants/api/resources/catalogue/records/eA7D8vAXt9GRrHhwXW1u25cyI3ZcKzFK [title] => Clear the result set. ) [self] => Array ( [href] => http://23.114.65.41:8082/api/xg/tenants/api/resources/catalogue/records/eA7D8vAXt9GRrHhwXW1u25cyI3ZcKzFK?offset=1&limit=15&pagesize=15 ) [records:firstpage] => Array ( [href] => http://23.114.65.41:8082/api/xg/tenants/api/resources/catalogue/records/eA7D8vAXt9GRrHhwXW1u25cyI3ZcKzFK?offset=1&pagesize=15 [title] => Retrieve a set of records. ) ) [limit] => 15 [id] => eA7D8vAXt9GRrHhwXW1u25cyI3ZcKzFK [@namespaces] => Array ( [records] => Array ( [name] => http://ottawa.axiell.com/api/records.html# ) [resources] => Array ( [name] => http://ottawa.axiell.com/api/resources.html# ) ) [title] => catalogue result set [@meta] => Array ( [@title] => catalogue records (1-1) [@description] => Records fetched from a search result. ) )
