A book about the life of American civil rights activist and Marxist, Angela Davis, that was written following her release from prison. The book recounts her childhood, activism, and the events leading up to her arrest. Davis had a large following in the GDR after her imprisonment in 1970. East Germans saw her as an example of the systemic racism prevalent in Western capitalist society. Davis was later acquitted and visited East Germany in 1972.
