This issue includes articles about: "Heros of Socialist Labour: The Bricklayer Davydov; Expert in Boosting Flax Yeilds; Distinguished Soviet Geologist; Engine Driver Papavin; Father and Son; Operating a Harvester Combine; A Veterinary; Half a Century in the Oilfields", "Tall Buildings in Moscow", "A Preserve in the Caucasus", and "Festival of Collective-Farm Djigits." The back cover features a photo titled "Performance by the Song and Dance Ensemble of the Georgian SSR at a festival of collective-farming djigits in Abkhazia (See illustrated story "Festival of Collective-Farm Djigits" on page 32). Contextual Note: 'USSR in Construction' was a Soviet propaganda magazine published from 1930 to 1941 and briefly in 1949. Printed in the USSR and distributed internationally, it was issued in five languages: Russian, English, German, French, and Spanish (added in 1938). The magazine aimed to promote Soviet achievements abroad through striking photography and avant-garde design.
