Two medals from Congo, both L'ordre du Mérite congolais. The award falls into three ranks, from lowest to highest: chevalier, officier, and commandeur. One of these medals is of an eight-pointed gold-colored star with red enamel fill. In the center of the star is a sun design, surrounded by a black band that reads "MERITE CONGOLAIS." The badge is attached with hardware to the center of a bow tied on a ribbon sash. The ribbon is red with a black band running through the center. The other medal is a standalone pin with an identical eight-pointed star design. However, the star is further embellished with silver rays emanating from the star's center. Given this extra decoration, it is larger in size than the previously described medal. it has a large pin and two latches on the back, for attaching to a garment. It appears that the medal attached to the ribbon is of the chevalier rank, while the larger silver badge possibly belongs to the commandeur rank, given its extra gilding and larger overall size. Both objects were labeled with small tags with the number "36."
