Chinese Cultural Revolution banner with portrait of Chairman Mao, calligraphy, and a ship. Quote is from Lin BIao, the former Vice Premier of the People's Republic and Minister of National Defense, and the calligraphic inscription is directly reproduced from his handwriting. The popular Chinese revolutionary song written by Wang Shuangyin in 1964, "Sailing the seas depends on the helmsman" (Dahai hangxing kao duoshou) took its title from Lin Biao's quote. The song was first publicized during a movement instigated by Lin Biao to further the study of Mao Zedong thought.
