Matted photograph of Khrushchev holding an ear of corn and talking to a conference of people in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. There is a caption in Faces Of A Nation that reads: Following Khrushchev's 1959 trip to the U.S., where he saw field after field of maturing corn, his enthusiasm for the Virgin Land Project grew. His dilemma: he would have to continue with the project in areas too dry to grow corn, or he would have to abandon the unsuccessful venture. Either way, his repuation would suffer.
