Description

Decorative wood plate/bowl with inlaid glass images in the center. The handcrafted glass artwork features six scenes of German athletes, painted in shades of red, white, and black. The top left scene displays a man running. To its right is an image of a man doing the high jump, then someone throwing a javelin, playing volleyball, hurdling, and playing football/soccer. In the center is an image of two men running in front of the flag of the German Democratic Republic. There is a silver wreath between it and text that states, "Ready for work and for the defense of peace." On one of the ridges of the plate is an engaved metal plate, which states that this plate/bowl is for the fourth Parliament of the Free German Youth and its Sports and Cultural Festival. The Free German Youth (FDJ) was a youth organization in Germany that distilled Marxist-Leninist values in young Germans, while also organizing leisure activities and holidays for them.
