Original menu from the 3rd Festival of Friendship, held in Halle, East Germany between May 13th and May 20th in 1975. The menu is signed by approximately a dozen East German athletes in blue pen on the front cover. The Festival was hosted by two youth organizations: the FDJ and the VLKSM. FDJ stands for Freie Deutsche Jugend and translates to Free German Youth. The FDJ was the official youth wing of the German Democratic Republic (GDR) and the Socialist Unity Party of Germany. VLKSM (влксм in Russian) stands for Всесоюзный ленинский коммунистический союз молодёжи which translates to All-Union Leninist Communist Youth League. VLKSM, commonly referred to as Komsomol, was the youth wing of the Communist Party in the Soviet Union. The menu includes details about what was offered for the breakfast and dinner buffets, and well as individual details about breakfast, lunch, and dinner for each day of the festival, including drinks, desserts, and any additional foods not listed in the two buffet lists at the beginning of the menu.
