Candidate for the Komsomol (version 2 without Stalin bust)

Date Made: original circa 1949, modified after 1953
Country: Soviet Union

Measurements: 135 cm x 180 cm (53 1/8 in x 70 7/8 in)

The standing girl is being approved by a jury for her admission into the KomSoMol, the Soviet youth movement. Apart from the fact that the later copy apparently tried to make the bare legs of the girl at the left side less sexually provocative, the main difference between the two versions is to be found in the upper right corner of the painting. The earlier version contains a bust of Stalin, which is left out in the second copy. The original version of this painting, with Stalin bust, is in the National Art Museum of Ukraine, Kiev.
