Woman In Blue

While the woman in the painting wears her hair in modern style, she is depicted with traditional, impressionist-style, brushstrokes. A self-taught artist from a small town outside of Moscow, Potapov uses classical techniques to depict simple farmers and villagers. His complexity and attention to detail can be found in his subjects’ facial features, rather than the subjects’ unadorned clothing and environment.
