This poster design shows the Virgin Mary lit by an orange glow, her halo defined by the barrels of guns pointing at her face from all sides and her hands in a protective gesture around the Russian parliament building with the Russian flag flying atop. The words at the bottom of the composition read “Redeem and Save,” written as commands in Russian. The illustration of religious protection of the White House refers to the 1991 coup attempt to oust Gorbachev from power, an event that culminated in a standoff between the plotters, a group of hardline Communist Party members, and the Soviet troops who refused to shoot on protestors building barricades outside the White House.
