Saint Stephen Church was the last of seven churches to be displaced on rails, as well as the building that was moved the shortest distance (15 yards). It was moved in 1988, three years after the beginning of Perestroika and one year before the fall of the Berlin Wall, revealing Ceausescu’s refusal to acknowledge the shifting political landscape of the Eastern bloc. The photograph shows the church surrounded by larger buildings and parked cars.
