Commemorative Plates

The Wende Museum’s plate collection spans more than 1,000 examples, from fine Meissen porcelain to hand-carved wood, ranging from commemorative pieces to everyday objects. Commissioned by a range of official organizations, the plates form a visual record of the symbols and iconography that shaped Cold War-era East Germany and Eastern Europe, combining text and image in ways that reflect the culture of the time.
