Gift: Julian Irlinger

November 13, 2022 to March 12, 2023
The Wende Museum

The installation Gift consists of a donation by artist Julian Irlinger to the archives of the Wende Museum. This donation includes legal documents from the German Reich and from post-war East and West Germany, detailing how the artist’s family’s land was confiscated by the German Democratic Republic in 1983 and transferred back to his grandmother by the Federal Republic of Germany in 1991. Gift highlights the different ways in which property was viewed in the two Germanies. The exhibition continues a project that started in 2020 at Galerie Wedding in Berlin. It is accompanied by a publication from Spector Books.
